St Marteen

St Maarten OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We motor-sailed with Tenace to Sint Maarten.  Actually we sailed to Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, because Richard has Dutch ancestory while Tenace sailed to St Martin, the French side, as they are from Quebec.  The French side has better food and roads but the Dutch side has cheaper everything!  We had to wait one more time for a bridge to open to let us into the bay.  We took a slip at Simpson’s Bay Marina at a cost of $1 per foot per night.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We explored Phillipsburg with the crew of Tenace: Pierre, Monique and Claude.  St MaartenClaude was flying home on April 9th and wanted to do some duty free shopping before going.  We stopped for lunch along the front street.

St MartinWe rented a car and drove around the island with Monique and Pierre after Claude left.  One of our stops was Orient Beach, now referred to as Waikiki Beach by the locals.  St MartinWe met a group of bikers on a cruise; they actually had their bikes on board a cruise ship and toured each of the islands on their own bikes!  We also did some grocery shopping.  Richard found a pineapple for 9 euros!  We thought it was a bit pricy but we both agreed that it was the best pineapple we ever had!

It is now April 12th and we are ready to leave Sint Maarten and head to St Kitts.

Virgin Islands

Sailing to US Virgin IslandsUS Virgin IslandsWe sailed to the US Virgin Islands on April 1 with Tenace.  We anchored in Lindberg Bay and were surprised to see our friends on Broad Reaching and Goin’ South already anchored.  We had a couple of days there to catch up on their news

Jost Van Dyke BVIAnd then on April 3rd we headed to OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands.  Sailing our boat to Jost van Dyke, anchoring in Great Harbour and having dinner at Foxy’s was number one on Richard’s “Bucket List”.  He certainly looks happy having a beer with Douglas, our boat mascot.  We wanted to be there for Friday and Saturday nights hoping to finally meet Foxy.  Unfortunately, he was on vacation (celebrating his knighthood?) but there is always next year… We had a nice meal at Corsairs where Richard discovered a new drink, a “dark and stormy” (dark rum and ginger beer).  On Saturday night with the crew from Lady M I and Tenance joined us for the infamous bar-be-que at Foxy’s .

Saba Rock BVIWe motored and sailed up to Virgin Gorda on April 5th and picked up a mooring ball at Saba Rock.  We were greeted by a turtle as we enjoyed the beauty of the North Sound.  We enjoyed a day here, doing some boat jobs and waiting for Tenace.  We will buddy boat with them for the overnight sail to Sint Marteen.
